Gabrielle Roth created 5Rhythms® in the late 60s and early 70s. It is a philosophy, a perspective, and a practice rooted in the principle that if you put the body in motion, the psyche will heal itself.
"You become continuous movement, creating infinite circular forms while moving up and down, breathing deeply..."
"You move in sharp, staccato, defined movements in which each movement has a beginning and an end."
"The rhythm of chaos awakens the mind and grounds it in the feet. You move your weight from the left foot to the right in repetition, moving from left brain to right.."
"The lyrical rhythm is grounded but free. There is lightness in the feet, the sense of being air-transported in the dance."
"Stillness calls you between the beats, between the bones, between the movements, guided by breath. "
A certified 5Rhythms® Spaceholder, who initiated 5Rhythms® in Siena, Italy, Eleanor is offering 5Rhythms Waves® classes in Ojai, CA from December 2019-April 2020 as part of the requirement for completing the 5Rhythms® Teacher Training Program.
The classes are an open invitation to come and explore.
Move in your own way and at your own pace. Breathe. Allow. Let go of tension and stress. Get out of your mind and into your body. Take a (safe) walk on the wild side. Discover the joy and energy that comes with movement. Have fun. Feel your power and vitality. Play with your creativity. Find your roots as well as your lightness of being. Be gentle with yourself. Listen to your body. Relax into ease and calm. Find your way home.
There is no way to "get it wrong" even if it's your first time. The more you dance the rhythms, the more you trust the intuitive wisdom of your body--that inner compass that speaks without words from the deepest part of you.
Wear comfortable, layered clothing and bring a bottle of water. We dance barefoot or, in special cases, with light, dance shoes.
